I just resently purchased a 06 ls430 with 162,000 on the clock.the car history report does not show the timing belt ever being changed.should i have it done as soon as possible or maybe later?
Is there any evidence under the hood, such as an Aisin sticker or a Toyota sticker? Mine is also not on carfax or Lexus, but I paid for it at my indie. So those records don't always show everything.
Otherwise, the worst thing that could happen is you change it and it has 162k on it, or you change it and it was done at 90k, so you are 18k early. Not much downside in doing it.
Change it. In addition to timing belt, tensioner, pulley, water pump, etc, you should consider changing the radiator. It will be removed for the timing belt change and they are under $100. It is worth doing while you have the engine pulled apart.
Good point on the radiator. With proper coolant changes, the OEM radiator run 160-220K miles. My shop relayed 180K is pretty average lifespan on those OEM Toyota radiators.
I installed a new radiator at 200k when I did the TB on my 2001 back in April, and it was ready.... The radiator on the 2005 looked pretty good when I did that TB, but that car had 59K on the odo.. Many fewer cycles...
