So yesterday on my lunch break I left work and the speedometer was not working the brake light is now on and the fuel gauge seems to intermittently fluctuate. None of these problems were present when I put in to work in the morning. I went how the battery and alternator tested and both of those seem to check out OK.
Try tapping the dash above the cluster, maybe it will bring the speedometer back to life. I had this issue in very cold weather on a 99 LS, not sure if a common issue with the 3rd gens but worth a try.
The tachometer works, so we can rule out a blown fuse (since both have a common power source). The next thing to check is the Vehicle Speed Sensor, possibly a loose connector, broken wires, or faulty sensor.
