I recorded yesterday of my 2004 with 140k miles. The sound I'm concerned with starts at about :13 in the video. I've owned the car for 3 years and I'm pretty sure the sound has always been there... if not, at least for the last 2 years. I do like to 'stretch it's legs' occasionally but never rev above about 3-3.5k RPM until it's fully warmed up. Oil changes are done at the dealer every 5k miles per their recommendation.
Does anyone else's car sound like this at idle?
The fact that the sound appears to be coming from the bottom side of the engine makes me worried that it could be rod knock. Are there any accessories that are mounted on the passenger side of the engine compartment that could make this sound? My power steering pump has been noisy for the last 2 years or so and does start to get slightly whiny as the engine revs, but obviously that whine is a completely different sound than what's in the video (dealer checked out the PS pump a while back and said the fluid level is fine, just a slightly noisy pump).
More info about it from the video description:
The knocking sound can’t be heard from the driver’s side even with the hood open, and barely audible from above the engine on the passenger side with the hood open. It is only slightly more audible while standing ~2 feet away from the car on the passenger side, but is very noticeable after bending down and putting an ear closer to the right front tire, or underneath the passenger side as I did at the end of this video. The sound is not intermittent and is always present, but does seem to become more apparent at slightly lower RPM, such as after shifting into drive or reverse and holding the car in place with the brake. Video was taken with the car in park at full operating temperature after driving it, air conditioning was not on.
Exhaust leak from the sound of it. I have never heard of any valve lash issues on these engines. So long as proper EARL changes are done, should have no issues

Oh I'm sure it's not a valve since it's coming from underneath the engine.
