i have a 2007 is350 and i just passed 50k miles... and it keeps making cranking sound from the engine area. the whole time the engine is on it keeps making that sound.. anyone know what that sound is? (and no its not direct injection sound)

i checked out that link yesterday, and there was video but mines not like that.. in the video the car just made weird sound during the start up. my car makes that sound the whole time its on. well i went into the dealership today, and he said hes not sure so he gave me a loaner.. i hope its nothing big..... because i already passed 50k for the warranty

 

I know some people have had the cranking noise (in the above thread, from cam gear TSIB issue) even when not just starting up the car. I also know of someone here on CL who had a recall performed and the dealer didn't retighten the timing chain but it drove OK and after a while he had quite a few problems, brought it in and they had to replace the whole engine (covered, of course). Not sure if his symptoms were the same as yours, but wanted to throw that out there.

 

thanks for the help! i found out from the dealer that my water pump was broken so they had to fix it. GOOD THING it was under my powertrain warranty thanks for help calvin

 

No problem, glad you got it worked out and found out what it was quickly. Now I (and other CL members) will know what the problem is when they experience this symptom.
