I suppose it was a roll of the dice, however the fluid was darker but not black. Yes, I am always present on site as I manage my shop. I chose a specific tech for the job simply because he has done outstanding work for me before. As per going overboard-it was more of a preventative deal. I noticed four of the eight coil packs had stress/heat cracks. The PCV side valve cover was two to three shades more contaminated than the drivers side. Tell-tale sign of a poorly flowing PCV system. Surprisingly all rubber parts looked suspiciously good. Lower ball joints are still fine, but being super picky-I would and will most likely change them soon. To revisit the trans portion: trans shift out great no hunting or difficult/sketchy shifting patters. Rear end fluid looked very good upon examination.

Blackstone labs abs are the **** buddy

i have a lot of faith in this vehicle to say the least.

note: saw a Russian review of the ls430, they mentioned twice that the throttle body is prone at certain mileage to self sabotage itself internally causing engine failure. Is there any merit to this?

Fair enough... sounds like you like to err on the side of caution, which I definitely can't fault you for

Now that... is a new one on me. I've never, ever heard of this problem in years of reading forums and customer reviews, and even a quick Google search didn't come up with any relevant hits. I can assure you that if this were really even somewhat of a common problem, people would be talking about it on this forum (I just searched... they're not)

I would be interested to hear more about how this failure is supposed to take place. Do you still have the link to this video?

I do. It’s in Russian though, so you wouldn’t get much out of it except for visuals, which are not specified to the problem. I did a search as well and came up with nothing. Funny part is that both videos state that the UZ makes 287 hp and 413 NM of TQ. That’s way off of our numbers. They also mentioned replacements of catalytic converters. I’m just taking a stab here, but I suspect that the internal plastic pieces of the TB simply do not comply with out cold winters on top of having a dirtier environment of operation. Especially during winter months. My region starts snow in September and the snow does not melt until late April

Damn.

Their stated 287 hp is only 3 hp lower than the original OEM spec of 290 hp (later changed in 2005 to 278 hp net using the newer SAE J1349 certification), and their stated 413 NM = 305 ft-lbs which is 15 ft-lbs lower than the OEM spec of 320 ft-lbs (later rated at 312 ft-lbs after the revised SAE testing procedures)... number, numbers, and more numbers... in other words, that video quotes the power 5 hp higher than it really is, and 7 ft-lbs lower than it really is.

Catalytic converters... there's no inherent or known problem with the cats in an LS430. There are 4 of them (2 for each bank of cylinders), and they are quite expensive if one or more were to fail.

Throttle body... which "internal plastic pieces" are you referring to? While there is some plastic on the outside of the TB like where the wire from the gas pedal plugs in to control the butterfly valve, there's not really any internal plastic that I'm aware of...

I am not sure which plastic parts they were referring to, they did not specify. If indeed there is a condition under which TB has breakdown of plastic parts (servo?) it may be due to the climate.
