Common for uz series motors to have crystallized coolant.
I was reading 2k's t belt thread and saw the crusty coolant on his water pump and was wondering if thats a common thing with the uz motors. My friend just did a timing belt on a tundra with the 2uz and it had a lot of that crystalized coolant see pics below
my question is is it a common thing for the uz series motors to have the coolant crystallize like that? Also what causes it

I have to believe there's more than 126K on that engine. That belt looks like it's been on there for close to 200K.. All the ancillaries are covered in rust.. Does LKQ store engines outside, or are they located next to a salt factory??

Thats what my friend said he thinks the motor was stored outside he hasnt had the chance to start the truck up yet. He is worried that when he starts it up its gonna light up like a x-mas tree because a bunch of sensors are bad, or blow up. On a side not this was the only motor available, apparently the 2uz with vvti are exceptionally hard to come by.

The crystals are from the additives they add to the glycol. They are corrosion inhibitor chemicals to pass I ate the aluminum in the block and the radiators. If you happen to spill a little the ethylene glycol, it wiill eventually evaporate, and the leftover salts added, will remain as crystals.

Oh cool man thank you for sharing your knowledge

definitly due to lack of maintenance, nothing to do with the engine. I've never seen a 120k belt look THAT bad though, I've seen a motor with about 220k that had a belt that cracked that badly. That's definitly a leaking pump and looks more like it's leaking from everywhere including aroud the pully which only happens after being used through multiple belt changes...I've had the seal between the pump and the block leak when I used a water pump twice and saw it when the second belt was due but it wasn't anything like that, just a little wet on the bottom. It takes a while for coolant to crystalize too. I guess it's possible that's all 126k but that seriously looks to have far more miles than that, imo.

Probably need to have the chain inspected, they're usually good for 190-200k then they start getting some sag. Had to replace my 240sx's chain guides and tensioner at 190, very worn. And you should change all of that you listed, WAY overdue...plugs too, usually every 30k actually, wires every 60k...and color doesn't mean anything. Also your tranny fluid is actually only good for 100k despite "lifetime" claims of the dealership
