Default Quietest 18" Tire

I put new tires on my '05 LS340. I still get a little whine and sometimes a big whine depending on the road surface. What have you found to be the most quiet tire for your LS430? IF it matters, I have the 18" wheels.

Thanks!

In theory, one would think that touring tires would be quieter than performance tires, but it's totally subjective. Funny thing is in our stable I have summer performance tires, winter tires, and the so-called Michelin Premier type of all-season. I never really gave it any thought before and I wonder if it's because usually the stereo is going....but I noticed on the LS430 that the Michelin X-ice Xi3's are ridiculously noisy. Probably would not go wrong with the Premiers, this I can say from my wife's car. But I am still not totally sold on the safe when new, safe when worn theory. They give you 2.5/32 less to start, and claim it's ok. It might be, don't know how to prove it. Because they still warrant for 60k.

I just put a set of Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring on my '05. Got about 500 miles on them and I've very happy with them. Very little road noise in all conditions. Really surprised by them. I had a hard time finding negative reviews and that's why I pulled the trigger. They're more reasonably priced than some of the other "premium" tires out there too.

Thanks for input. Please make sure you are commenting on 18” tires as they would tend to be noisier anyways.

Last week I went for the 18" Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring on my '05 and I'm glad I did. Replaced some brand of "performance" tires I had never heard of, the tires replaced being the loudest I have had on any car since some old Firestone tires on my 1963 Studebaker Avanti. The cooper tires are quiet in all conditions, the difference was astounding. Please remember than any tire will only be as quite as the surface it travels on will allow for, but the great price vs. performance ration on the Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring makes them a top choice for me.

I got curious if Cooper were still American. Apparently a deal from an Indian co. to purchase it fell through, and they are made in USA still.

Here is its category, the way I would read it is I'd want significant mileage behind any ranking, that's me....seems like many of the tires listed in this category, do not come in the needed size.

I realized this issue too when I was looking. My wife's Sequoia has Michelin Defenders and I love them, but they weren't available in the right size either. One of the only other tires I could find rated as well as the CS5 was the Pirelli everyone reccomends...they're $200+ a tire. I figured I'd give the Coopers a shot with a 45 Day trial available.

I bought General Altimax RT43 245/45 R18 tires in December of 2017 and they seem pretty quiet to me and ride well. The car had Bridgestone Turanzas on it previously with about half the tread remaining and they were much louder.

Here's a link to the Generals on TireRack although I bought them at WalMart and had them installed and balanced there. You get a lifetime balance there as well.

Not on 18s or on a lexus lol but I posted in another thread that I put antares majoris m5 on my BMW X5 and all in they were 870 canadian installed and balanced and I think you would be hard pressed to find a quieter tire for double the price, I'm honestly more impressed with these cheap tires than with MPSS I've had on other cars, purely based on cost.

That's funny, my cousin has a M5. I told him I got my Pilot Super Sports mounted, and he goes I heard those are good, but way too expensive. I beg to differ but to each his own! And I am riding on cheap tires with the LS430, because the seller put them on, and I refuse to throw seemingly perfectly good tires away. But they would not be my first choice.

Does the PSS pass the marginal cost < marginal benefit test? Maybe not. But it's pretty rare that an ordinary person can afford something that is pretty much the best hands down. These were standard on the 599 GTO.

p.s. thought you had a M5 but I see you have a X5
