Yes too much money. But there is always someone who is obsessed with the car's condition that might pay the price or close to it. When a car is that pristine....it's going to sell.... and if you quibble...someone is most likely to jump in. Do you want to be a winner? or do you want to own this car? Good luck.

I talked to the Reno Lexus dealer this afternoon. They reported that the car has been maintained by them and said the car just had an inspection and oil and filter change. They couldn't go into detail since the information is private to the owner. Anyway it passed their safety inspection noting that nothing was needed except cabin filter and windshield washer blades. Brakes and tires were all good with no recommended service needed. Other than recommending the TB be replaced, that was it. Their "insurance value" was $14k for a "total loss" type claim. Also they said they'd sell this car for $14k++ without any problem if they had it in their showroom. It is just like new.

Have you guys seen the "timing belt" thread? The guy has a 2001 LS430 with 190k miles on it with the original TB. Now that may not be recommended, it is something to think about.

the other thing is you are comparing a private party sale to a dealership, that lexus dealer will not sell the car if it was traded in without the TB done. I almost guarantee it!!

Hey guys, In regards to the 2002 Lexus on topic. I just purchased the car from said seller for $13,750. I believe it’s on the high end but I am one of those guys that put value in a clean car. OP, hopefully I didn’t snag it out from you, it looks like you were debating this purchase for a couple days. I just test drive it today and it is amazing and at 37k miles is what pushed me over the edge.
As to the OP losing out on the deal, as my grandmother used to say while we were playing cards: "He who hesitates is lost!"
One last request, if you decide to get the timing belt changed out on the car anytime in the near future can you post a good quality photo of it??? Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum. Most of us thought that it was overvalued at $15k, but by how much is only anyone's best guess. Give that car a little TLC and you should enjoy it for many years to come.

For what it's worth. I bought my '01 Ls430 2yrs.ago w/70,000mi. for $7,500 very good condition. Two days later I was at a gas station and the owner offered $10,000 on the spot.
I have another (old) Toyota (pickup). That engine went 400,000 mi. before I replaced it with another engine that I still drive today (regularly). That said, both of these vehicles were
built in Japan and that speaks volumes.

[QUOTE=zbimmer;10139349]It's only been on CL for 3 days. He doesn't need to sell the car, so he's not budging on price. Where else do you find one of these in new condition? I haven't found one. Never driven in the winter, northern california/nevada car. Or is 37k miles something that there are others out there? If you know of any please point me in a direction.[/
JUMP ON IT, i have owned 5 LS430. Its worth every penny. And in NV no sales tax. I just bought an LS430 from a dealer in Tucson. 61000 miles 2 owner. Got home and found rear struts are leaking. Dealer quote $4100. The subwoofer has blown and the door actuator needs to be replaced.I paid $13000 out the door.

i just bought a 2005 original owner 60k UL. Two days after it was listed, I talked to the dealer on the phone. Sent him $1,000 deposit and flew from Houston to KC, Mo two weeks later to see and drive it. As a 13 year old car, and no TB sticker, I knew I was going to put some money into it. The car was purchased at auction, by the dealer. Likely because no one wanted to spend more money on it. Isn’t that always the case? I paid in the neighborhood of the price this car sold at. 4,000 miles per year, always garaged, no salt stains in the engine compartment. Nothing on the car fax except a 58k oil change. I drove from the dealer to Hendrick Lexus and had a 90k service done. Turns out they sold the car new and serviced it every 8-10 months, since new. I may have paid a bit more than I should have, but it’s the car I wanted. Where else are you going to find a 10-14,000 dollar luxury car that’s reliable? Lincoln-no! Mercedes, only when it’s under warranty. BMW, not once its over 65k miles. Couldn’t be happier. To the OP, keep looking, these come up often with less than 75k with solid histories. The people who purchased then new, had the means to maintain them. Buy a one owner, if you can find them best wishes in your search.
