LS430 2001 140,000 miles.
I have difficulty starting. Replaced battery and alternator. At times the car starts but on others it just doesn't. Wait a couple of minutes and it may start then

Yep, that's a good idea. My wife's car lost its avg mpg, mph, gallons, etc., just this past Monday. This was a clue the first time it needed a new battery. Oddly, it was replaced only 21 mos. ago and has a 3 yr. free replace, from the Three Stooges.
They tried to sell me an alternator/starter check for $16, I said no. They replaced the battery no charge (they tried to charge me 3X and I told them it's under warranty--this is why never again. advance auto tried the same so I'm done with all these shops, Costco or Walmart next time), and there was a slip of paper showing the results of the alternator/starter test. Could be the OPs starter is going bad and drawing a larger number of amps. I thought I heard 300A is normal, more is faulty?
edit found this on YouTube...I wouldn't like the Three Stooges removing my relays, however.....looks like my 300A number is way off. This says 200A maybe for a diesel....the car in the video was 100A...

Difficulty starting = you turn the key and it goes rumrumrumrumrum and never starts, or you turn the key and it's just quiet and nothing mechanical in the engine block turns?
FYI---graduated I graduated bootcamp 5JAN1990 from MCRD PI. Semper Fi Marine.
