I really don't even check it between the oil changes that I do myself. Been switching Pennzoil Ultra (when I can find it) and Mobil 1 synthetic. I'll try to pay more attention the next 6 months and see how it's faring. With a 20 year old car and over 225k miles I'm not expecting perfection. Car is still awesome and I enjoy the ride and the drive.
I swear by Walmart and the annual rebates.....just got 4 jugs Pennzoil Platinum, $10 rebate per jug = $40....then I got 2 jugs Mobil 1, $12 rebate times 2 = $24. So I have 6 jugs waiting for 2018....WIX XPs for the LS and my wife's car. The rebates are easy, just upload via web, about 5 wks later a check arrives....set it and forget it....the jugs are around $23 so the rebates are a generous % off....

What is condition of your PCV valve, grommet and hoses (both banks)?

Yodaone,
I had those swapped out completely when the valve covers were redone about 20k miles ago. Did not make sense to leave them in when you've got the covers off already. Easier to get the grommet out when you've got them apart because you know when they're that old, they will simple break apart. Replaced all 3 components.

You are all far from this ... camshaft seals begin to leak around 250 - 260K +/-. Crank seal possibly too. Best advice is on the 2nd timing belt change (180K +/-), pay the extra and change the cam seals if you intend to drive to 300K and beyond like I am on my '01.

For giggles have a compression test done to see if some piston rings are toast that would lead to drastic oil consumption if you have some bad rings.
