For anyone considering a unit with Android Auto, I must say that getting the right cable is key to making it work. I bought an OEM cable off eBay but I suspect it is a fake because it didn't work. Used a 6ft Gator Cable and it works great. It's awesome having navigation based off of Google Maps and you simply say "OK Google" and say an address and it pops up. It's also nice to stream Amazon Audio and get the cover art, though it doesn't display correctly. I wish the unit I got had more than one USB so you could still play USB music while using Android Auto. It's not something I will use all the time, but it will come in handy once in awhile.

Had a bunch of bills come up all at once. Once things settle down, I'll do the speaker upgrade and report back here with pictures.

OK, do I need to have my telephone connected or is this thing stand alone.

To use Android Auto, you need to have a cable from your phone to the headunit. It will not work over Bluetooth.

OK so it IS NOT stand alone and requires a telephone, right. OK I assume its a mini USB to a standard USB.

1) Does it charge the phone while plugged in or do you have to make sure you have a well charged phone for a long trip?

2) And what happens if signal is dropped out in West Texas? Does it automatically switch to offline status and use maps in memory?
