My new 04 has the button on the trunk covered with duct tape AND the trunk button on the fob doesn't work. The trunk will open from the button on the dash. I don't know what the duct tape is for.

Is there a reason the trunk button and the keyfob button don't work?

Keyfob works for everything else.

Yes. There is a reason.

By the way, when using the key fob button, are you pressing and holding it pressed for a few seconds...?

It doesn't tell you in the FM. By the way, did holding the trunk button depressed for a few moments also work...?

Most common cause is that the rubber on the button went soft and sticky, so someone who was too cheap to replace the button just duct taped over it.
Probably still works, but like the fob button you have to hold it for a sec or 2.
New button is cheap enough and not difficult to replace.

It is in the manual, just not in the first place I looked.

P/N is 84945-50010. If you need a quick guide on replacing it, I made a video when I swapped mine the other day.

hi, I have the same problem on my 01. Tried to replace the button but cannot locate the correct part nr. All listings I checked go only to o3. There seems to be a different part for the 01 to 03. I even found a listing on e-bay. It specified that it will fit for the 01. They also had a separate list and this list said it will NOT fit.
Do you have the correct part nr for 01 430?
Much appreciated

So far as I can see the part did not change for all years of the LS430. All years including 2001 use 84945-50010.
https://lexus-europe.epc-data.com/ls...ic/8420/84945/

There is another part 84944-50010 but that is a blanking panel to blank off the hole where the trunk switch sits.
It's made from hard plastic and is cheap (like $6).
