Default abs issue after wheel bearing replacement.

I replaced a rear wheel bearing, big pain in the butt with all the sledgehammering required. I got it all together, but now when Im pulling into a parking space and turning right, or backing up and turning right while hitting the brake, the abs seems to go off. I can hear the rumble and the pedal goes down a bit.
My best guess is that the abs sensor cover isnt quit in the right spot. Does that make sense?

The ABS looks for a "locked" wheel by monitoring the wheel speed sensors. It modulates the braking on the wheel that is turning significantly slower than the others to "anti-lock" the skidding brake/wheel. The ABS is not activated if the car is going slower than 10 km/hour (6 MPH). Are you getting any DTC error codes?

Just curious, doesn't our tire pressure work off abs, and would that imply that if under 6 mph, the car would not know there's a flat? Because quite often, a flat happens slowly, and it's discovered after sitting, and it would be ideal not to move the car on a flat....

I don't remember having to use the hammer on my rear wheel bearing replacement (see link below)

Can you share your experience on what others should watch out for?

I've never performed a wheel bearing replacement on my Lexus but I have done about a half dozen of them on other makes over the last ten years or so. Due to the rust issues that you typically see around here I generally had to sledge the old ones in order to get them off of the car and follow that up with a good amount of grinding to clean up the area before installing the new bearing. I always envy you folks down in the Southern region of the country when it comes time to do any under body work...

He may have used a hammer on the old hub where you used a hub/gear puller > your step 7 & 12 in link.

Aah, the rusted-in parts... Sometimes things that are seemingly irrelevant can turn out to be the most difficult part of the project.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'm glad I didn't have to deal with that problem.

Did you connect the abs sensor back to the wheel bearing?

Everything went back together, I did pry on the wrong part of the sensor cover and slighty ovalled the hole. No abs codes, and I dont see the light,it only happens during a slow right turn, but then again I dont hit the brakes during turns except in parking. It started the day after I did the rear hub and installed new lexus brake pads.

To confirm... Did you say you can hear rumble while making a right turn even if you are NOT hitting the brake?

I suspect that you're not dealing with a speed sensor problem, otherwise, the symptoms would be the same if you turn in either direction since both will generate the same speed difference between the 2 wheels. I would suggest a careful look to find evidence of rubbing.
