Default Coil Packs cracking

A friend of mine was changing out my spark plugs and he noticed my coil packs were cracking. Not all of them but maybe 4 or 5 of em. After looking at them, I realized I just may as well replace all of them for a peace of mind. I went to Lexus and they quoted me around $120 for each. I need all 8... Anyone know an alternative site or I am thinking of ordering them from Amazon, has anyone used any of the brands off there? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

How are they so far? Good quality? If so, would you provide me with a link

You are replacing all of the coils (possibly with non-OEM coils) simply because of a crack in the plastic tube but have no other engine symptoms?

Yes, I want to. I have no other engine symptoms. Just figured if they are cracking I might as well replace them now, instead of down the road. I have not purchased anything as of yet. Should I not? Thoughts? I am sitting at around 58k miles (2002 LS430).

If you really want to change them, although I would not until you start experiencing problems. Go with rockauto. They have various brands from $20 up to brands like Denso for $55 each.

I have changed the spark plugs twice on my '01 with 263K+ miles, but it has the original coil packs (and yes, some of the plastic tubes of the coil packs have slight cracks that do not effect their performance).

What would I be experiencing if the cracks were affecting the performance? Misfires? She starts right up everytime, no problems. If the cracks are just normal wear, I wouldn't mind not replacing them to save some $$$.

You'd experience rough idle, misfires, engine rpm lag on acceleration, poor gas mileage, stalling & starting problems, backfire, etc.

Default My experience with cracked coil packs

Over the last year I started to loose power and eventually picked up a slight miss under heavy load. I discovered all of my coil packs had cracks. I have 200k with 125k of that in stop and go Miami traffic.
I replaced the coil packs one at a time, moving the new one from one cylinder to the next to see where it made the biggest difference. I was planning on replacing them all but didn't want to spend $130 x 8 all at once. I finally found some cheaper priced Denso on Amazone:
Amazon.com: Denso 673-1303 Ignition Coil: Automotive Amazon.com: Denso 673-1303 Ignition Coil: Automotive
$59.00. The car regained is power and smootheness when all 8 had been replaced.

Default coils cracking

just a thought: try epoxy around the crack or coat the whole part with it.
My old 528i once backfired and it blew the top off the airmass sensor. Big bucks from the stealer. My mechanic epoxied the top back on and never had a problem with it. $10 bucks at the hardware store

But duct tape will NOT work

If you grease the OUTSIDE of the coil pack with dielectric grease and the problem goes away then you know that part of your spark is leaking out the crack and "tracking" to ground. The dielectric grease will prevent the spark from jumping to ground. This will only work for a day or two but thats enough time to diagnose the problem.
