Pathetic low life bastards tried to break into my car last night. Now I have a bent up lock mechanism, a broken off key in the lock, and a broken plastic cover. Infuriating. POS SOB's! I can't believe this. Anyone know if it's possible to remove a broken off key in the lock without having to pull the whole assembly out?

Wow, that's crazy. What was in the car that they were trying to get, the camera?

Try using small jewelers screwdrivers, and/or some sticky substance (like putty) to pull the key out.

 

I would try to super glue something thinner to it and just pull it out. Sorry to hear man!

 

This is a sad sight Lav . I think your best bet is to remove the lock and carefully remove the key. Dont want to risk damaging anything else.

 

thankfully they didnt get in because you dont know what the idiots would of damaged once they got in.gotta love the crack heads.

That's what I am afraid of. I went ahead and ordered a set off amazon. A little different from the one I posted because of shipping time. Sucks because this is the only way to enter the vehicle manually. Hopefully with some lubrication it will come out. If not I will take the lock out.

As far as what they were after was probably the electronics although everything was hidden. I take off the camera at night but the mount was still in place. I actually modified my sun shade to cover up as much as possible. We have had problems in our neighborhood with people breaking into cars. Mine has never been messed with until now. Hopefully it won't be too hard to get that key out. I guess I will remove the mount every night too. Anyway, I should be moving shortly and maybe this won't be an issue anymore.

If you can remove the broken key shank and the lock mechanism still works, the key hole cover may be available separately. It is for the rear doors. # 69208-50010

 

Sorry to hear this. What a hassle. Smart find on the tool kit. Worth a shot before doing "surgery". "removing broken car key" search on youtube brought up a couple of videos. One quick and promising (Wedgeco.com), the other talks about 1-2 hours of effort and replacing the cylinder if unsuccessful. It means a new key as well. The Wedgeco one looks like the way to go.

 

I was looking at videos online too. I think the only thing that might screw me is if the crack head forced a key in there and it's really stuck bad. Sure hope not. Kit should be here in a few days. Local locksmith wanted $180 to "try" to remove the key.

Ended up with this one as the other kit was going to take until the end of August to get delivered. Looks like the same thing different name.

Youtube is an amazing resource. The kit you're buying seems to be a good bet.
I'm wishing you luck and patience. If you need to replace the door lock, you should be able to buy a slim/wallet key for it and continue to use your old/chipped key for the ignition, glove box and trunk.

 

That definitely sucks.

You might want to get a small cobalt drill bit that could drill the key enough to get a good bite on it and then pull it out.

 

So I put my old cover back on just to compare and I realized how much of the lock mechanism is screwed up. I swear, whoever did this should be glad I did not catch them. They would of had a 9mm halo point in their ***. I went back and looked on the street and found other pieces the crack head ripped out with a screwdriver. Uggghhh. So frustrating. Even if I get the broken off key out the gaping whole is going to drive me nuts. I guess a new lock will eventually be in order.
