trunk light will not go out and it's not the switch
The trunk light on my 2004 LS 430 will not go out and I've bypassed the switch and that doesn't make any difference. I even traced the wires to the fuse box and verified that there is continuity between the switch and the fuse box. Does anyone know how to continue the diagnosis? Or is there a systemic issue with these cars that I should know about? Appreciate any insight. Thank you!!!
You are looking down the right path. How do you know it's not the switch? The computer may need to see a certain resistance from the switch? Just coming up with ideas.
The trunk switch is a very basic and reliable micro switch that is simply either open or closed. I removed the switch and bypassed it so that I can open or close the switch manually to simulate what the micro switch does. It makes no difference. The car still believes the trunk is open.
Then I traced the wires from the mirco switch to the fuse box in the rear of the car. I verified the wires actually go to the fuse box with no breaks and that the connections to the fuse box are good. Everything appears to be working properly.
I don't know where the wires go after that or what system reads the signal and makes the determination that a signal should be sent to the dash indicating "trunk open". I wondered if possibly I needed to perform a reset somewhere after a power shortage? Everything else on the car works flawlessly. This is the only issue. Thank you for any assistance!!!!
