Key (stub-out) won't turn due to strange steering wheel lock-out
I'm very used to steering wheel lock when I try to start the car after grabbing the wheel on exiting & locking it inadvertently. Usually it jiggles left to right about 10-20 degrees & the key stub-out will release & turn w/ a fob present. The other day my LS430 would not start (key stub-out would not turn) & the car would not turn on. The steering wheel would turn freely although I didn't try a full 360. Full power in car, lights worked, new Optima battery, new key fob battery & fob in my hand near the dash. Doors locked & unlocked w/ fob. Dash completely un-lit, no acknowledgement of fob present, no "pre-starting" lights on on dash. After 3-4 minutes of side to side w/ the steering wheel, dash lit & key stub turned & car fired right up. Any ideas or experience w/ this issue? I'l trying to get in the habit of grabbing the windshield pillar when exiting, now, instead of the steering wheel., Thanks, NPR

my car has also done this. key starts to turn but wont. I have no solution but have been told to set parking brake before putting in park when exiting to reduce binding, I have been late to work a few times because of this. removing shift lock cover and putting in neutral does not work. when **** starts to turn steering wheel unlocks and can be turned but does not un bind whatever is bound up.
