'04 Navigation Update
Before I ask the question I will say that I did do a search for "Navigation Update" and "Navigation Update LS430" in the forum but didn't come up with any real results.
How do you update the navigation in a 2004 LS430? The little that I did find it looks as though it's a DVD that would do the update but I didn't find out any other information like where to get the DVD and/or how to switch it out. I'm also curious if anyone has a suggestion on the cheapest place to buy the DVD.
I was able to look up the service records of the car based on the VIN and I see where the dealer recently recommended the Navigation update but the owner declined.
Thanks for any info....

They were on sale thru 12/31/14 for $99.
Here is the part to order:

The DVD reader is in the trunk on the right side below the padding. The threads on mine are stripped on the screws so I have to have the dealer get it out. Once it's raised it's really easy. You just eject the old one and put in the new one. Start the car and it will read off the new disc.

cool. keep us updated. I'm not getting my friends LS for another couple months but I saw where he turned down the navigation update so that will probably be something I do when I get the car.

I just updated my Nav. and I have a 04 LS430. Bought the DVD on sale before 12/31/14 for $99. I had to loosen the Navigation box back in the trunk so the old DVD would spit out. Once I did that I just fed the new DVD in. Took a few seconds to load in, then was done. I found that with so much construction going on it's already outdated. But it's still better then it was, I was always driving through a field getting to my house(at least on the screen) since I live in a newer subdivision.
The PDF instructions on Sewell's site tells you to take apart more things than you really need to (for 2005 LS430) to install the disc.
Also, after installation of the new disc, my nav system loaded default WV/PA area map/POIs. I had to switch it to use the CA area. If you don't, it will suggest and try to navigate you to a similarly named POI very far away. Lol!
Having a recent/latest nav dvd in the car is a plus point when selling the car, especially if you mention it in the ad and other similar cars were not updated.

Was the ability to show a list of the next couple of upcoming turns (to the right of the map) in the original 2004 nav? When I updated to the 2014 version, I see this list now and find it quite useful in addition to the map.
If it was in the 2004 version, the previous owner must have disabled it, and I didn't know it could do that.
