In my opinion, you will be much safer to disconnect the battery.
i have just replaced my 2007 Lexus LS460 rear air suspension both sides. But after installation, while the air pump started to working the car back to normal height, only right hand side (front and back) is lifting up and the left side (front and back) continued to stay low.
I did not remove the battery prior to installation.
I am not sure if there is a sensor need to be reset or simply the new rear suspension on the left side that I just installed is malfunction and therefore the air cannot flow to the left side..
