Smile 2006 LS430 Timing Belt Service

Just had my timing belt and water pump service today. I heard some knocking noise so we didn't want to take any chances of having the belts break. So at 89,200 miles had it change. I check with the Toyota store and they were much lower than the Lexus Store, so after my husband check with the Lexus Store and being an employee of the company automotive group he was able to get a discount. If we hadn't got a discount, we were going with the Toyota Group. So check with the Toyota Store.

What was the cost from each before the employee discount? We all know the Toyota dealer is cheaper on parts and labor than a lexus store. Those leather couches, hot chocolate, baked goods and late model lexus loaner cars aren't free lol

How was that knocking noise related to the timing belt? What was it?

So you went to Toyota and they supplied all the parts and labor for $850 plus tax? That does not sound bad for a TB and WP change. Did they also replace any idlers, tensioner and thermostat? Do a full coolant flush?

They did a full coolant flush. The Service Tech said the idlers and tensioner was good since it was not making any noise. I wish we would of had that replaced at the same time timing belt and water pump. It was recommend to us at the time. Went back got a price at about 350.00. for idler and tensioner service.

I know few of us take shortcuts, however both my Yota and Lexus guys told me 8 out of 10 they do not change idlers and tensioners first t belt job.
