Default 90,000 miles service: Lexus vs Toyota Dealership

We bought our 2006 400h last may with 74,000 miles knowing the 90k service includes the timing belt and would be expensive. being our first lexus we've done the 75k, 80k and 85k services at the Lexus dealership in Louisville. each 5k interval service cost $105 and their VIP club gives you 5% credit. and you can request a free loaner car if you reserve in advance.

It's time for our 90k service and i called Lexus of Louisville for a price quote. $950 but then you're most likely going to need to replace the water pump at another $450 so basically $1400+. btw, teh lexus dealership didn't bring up the possibility of changing the water pump, i knew from previous toyota avalon experience that it's best to do at same time as timing belt. you go to lexus and that's a $450 surprise they don;t prepare you for. in my mind i had been expecting to pay $1200 for the service so a little more than what i was thinking.

I decided to check out Oxmoor Toyota online and found they had a $50 timing belt change coupon for toyota's only. i called the service department and asked if lexus would be honored and they said of course. they priced things differently but their quote for service was $199 for the 90k service (oil change, filters, rotation), $350 for the timing belt, and then they added the water pump is recommended at another $350. they were $900 and honored the $50 coupon.

we just got the car back today from Oxmoor Toyota (shuttle service dropped my wife off and picked her up from work and she raved about her drivers). we also need new front brakes for $280. on the bill, they changed the $50 off coupon to 10%. total bill:

$1079.36.
90k service- Oil Change, Air filters, tire rotation
timing belt
water pump
front brakes and rotor resurface

at the lexus dealership it would have been almost $1800 depending on how much the brakes would have been. and additionally, the 5k interval sevices are only $70 at toyota not $105. the loaner car is just not worth the extra cost. toyota has my business from now on.

hope that helps someone. remember to got to your website of local toyota and look for service coupons. good luck
