Sanjay28, did you figure out if you have Gen. 2/3 or Gen. 4? I have a similar issue in my 02 UL where spec says Gen 2/3 but am thinking previous owner updated to Gen 4.

My display looks similar to your post in #12 above with the toggle (lower left) and zoom-in range to 1/32 of a mile (165 feet).

cleaning lenses and DVD did not completely solve the issue.

But i Found out:
If i keep a destination in the routeplanner (home address or whatever) the system hardly does not fail anymore..
also, sometimes the buttons do not respond, and after some minutes all of a sudden I get them back for use... it seems like the computer is sooooooooow slow...

My 2001 LS430 nav quit working and after reading this thread and others I decided to try the newer player and disc instead of paying the Lexus shop $2200.
The newer player and disc are indeed plug and play although it will take some time to figure how to use the different features. Thank you Tom57 for the idea.

John, Great job installing the Gen 4 and upgrading your Nav! You might want to pick up the Lexus Navigation Owners Manual for Gen 4 (2004 - 06). Several available: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-Lexus-LS430-LS-430-Navigation-System-Owners-Owners-Manual-/111355070631?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&hash=item19ed4788a7&vxp=mtr
Enjoy!

I don't think it would be a problem to get a free copy from Lexus.
Try signing on to the Lexus driver's site, and request the appropriate year's manual

I will try that. Now I just ordered an ML amp and it should be here in a few days and we'll see how that works out. My wife is having a fit because I am leaving the trunk carpeterior off so I can install the amp.

new amp still doesn't work. I have the wiring colors for in and out of amp but don't know how they label the three connectors. They seem to be A B C but is that reading left to right and from the rear or?
Any help is much appreciated.
I got it now to why I see input from the radio but no output to the speakers. This is with the new supposedly working amp. Possibly the mute?

Today it is working! I checked the mute wire and it was grounded so I cut it and the amp started playing. I tried the old amp but it is bad.
So my problem was bad amp and mute wire shorted to ground somewhere. My wife is again happy now that she has her radio back so I am happy too.

I bought a Nav player on eBay and upgraded the system to Gen 4 (from Gen 2/3 which is what you have). Gen 2/3 Nav discs do not cover the whole U.S., and the Gen 4 is a more functional GPS too. Installing the new Gen 4 player is easy - plug n' play. You will need the Gen 4 map disc though. Let me know if you need part numbers for the Gen 4 system that will work for your '02 and i will get them. Upgrading to Gen 4 may be a selling feature too.
I am having the same problem with my 01. Would you mind sending me the part number for the LS430 - year 2001? I appreciate your help.

Upgrade to Gen 4 Nav, use part #s: 86841-50090 or 86841-0E010. See post # 4 above. For additional detail, see:

Good luck!

Had the no disk error happen for the first time yesterday. She came back to life after I powered off and on again but the reader may be reaching the end of its life cycle. I honestly never use the internal nav as I find it pretty much sucks. I might just take the disk out so it does not activate. Wonder if it is worth pulling open to clean the lense or maybe it is an alignment problem.

Edit: Well, the nav seems to be acting fine now. Might have been a glitch. Just have to wait and see if it returns.

Just thought I would share an update. I went ahead and pulled the nav unit out and opened it up. There was absolutely no dust inside and you really can't gain access to the drive itself without disconnecting all the ribbon cables, which I did not want to go through with. The back side of the drive itself has a clear plastic backing and as mentioned it was clean as a whistle. I went ahead and blew inside the drive a few times just because and put her back together. Everything is working fine but I think either the laser lens becomes misaligned or the motor that spins the disk starts to fail. It does get a lot of heat in the summer which can't be too good for it unit. Let's see how long it will last. There is a battery on the logic board just like a computer.

Are you sure it's not the Nav disc itself? Did you hit a bump and perhaps dislodge the disc?

I cleaned the lens on my '01 and it worked for a while too. But it was neither dust nor motor. It was the strength of the DVD laser lens. Given what I know of your mileage, it seems early for the lens to be giving out though. The Nav player in the '01 didn't quit until 12 years old and ~ 225K miles.

I did not try swapping the disk but the problem also has not returned. It could of been a bump when it was reading or just something random. It did happen right after I was leaving a gas station and the car had only been on 25 seconds or so. I'm just going to leave it be for now as it seems to be working ok.

Default are LS and GS nav parts interchangable?

I know i saw a a thread for the GS "no Disk detected" before but can't find it now. Anyone know if the part numbers are the same?
