On the molecular level, unless you got some good eyes I dont think you'll be able to spot it...

Read BITOG web site and you'll get a good idea on what broken down oil is like. The additives are not present in sufficient quantities having been used up or burned up and the oil picks up carbon based combustion products. It also picks up metal and metal oxides from engine wear. As a result of additive loss the viscosity transitions from cold to hot and back again becomes uneven. Send you oil in for analysis to Blackstone or other labs to know on your car for sure. My 04 came back with around 9000 miles as a safe point.

Yes, I know it's an old thread but it's a subject I enjoy discussing.

Lol, 2 years after this post and I learned about this Fumoto device. I don't live under a rock, but now I feel like I just came out of my mothers basement. Gotta love the internets!
