Default Is 250 oil filter dillema

Hi everyone
Last night I changed oil on our is250 for the first time. Everything went smooth until oil filter needed to be replaced. Autozone sold me wrong wrench and I did not wanted to force with pliers. However, my fiance needed the car to drive to work and I just changed the oil without replacing filter. I'm getting right wrench today and planing to replace filter tonight.
Is it possible to replace filter without draining the oil completely? Or if i need to drain, can I just collect that oil and put it back into engine (oil was changed yesterday) ?

Thanks in advance !

You lose maybe a quarter quart of oil when you remove the filter, no matter how fast you do it. You could collect the oil that was drained if its collected into a clean container. I personally would not do that, but its something that can be done in a pinch.

Save your money and dont buy the OEM wrench or any wrench from any where else but the one bellow. I purchased this one recently and it works great.

I would suggest you change the filter. There was a recent thread about this and it has been confirmed that you change your oil every 10K and your filter every 5k.

Like Panda said change the filter and refill about half quart.

with lexus now allowing 10k oil changes using synthetic, what do they recommend about the filter, change at 5k? I looked at Sewell and its still the same part number for the filter.

The filter holds exactly .7 of a quart.

I would change the filter and top off the missing oil. easily done, don't wait till the next time to change the filter

Have the same one; in fact, the tool was such a tight fit, the thing didn't like coming off w/o a hammer. So I now just leave it on the canister. LOL!

Strange, I've had my Assenmacher TOY640 for ages, and it has never had that problem.

That's why I sugested the other tool. It grabs the housing by the ears and makes quick work of removing it.

Sewell doesnt but there was a big discussion about this last month about oil changes.. Take a look at my previous post. There were several articles posted that proves the idea of 10k oil and 5k filter.

90rr, you just need to have some leverage. If you can, put a 24mm socket on that with a 1/2" breaker bar. if you don't have one, try using a floor jack handle and be very careful that it doesn't slip off and hit you or anything around you. you should be pulling with force toward the front bumper, I know it sounds kinda silly but make sure the ratchet is in the "off position" so to say. (Snap On ratchets have on/ off clearly marked on it)
