After i saw this, i ordered both filters right away. his car have about 160k miles. mine's about same.
He used original parts.
for some clarification:
filter A ('bag') - is for 'harsh' filtering and filter B ('plastic cup') is for 'fine' filtering.
He obviously replaced both.
I am going to do the same asap.
Access if from under the rear left seat cushion. Replacement is basically DIY.

well, the original post does not have instructions per se, more of just observations about filters being hella dirty.
i ordered parts and will take more pictures of the process and then post here to be stickied - will that work?

Speak KIRA X to see if he can add this to the DIY thread. But Take pictures and a good step by step write up would help a lot esp. with our cars there's a lot of stuff to remove just to get to certain items.

Start a new post stating "DIY - fuel filter replacement" or something close to that, so he can link it.

Here's a DIY from a GS430. I did it on my GS430 before and it was very simple. 15-20 min tops and it gets you better gas mileage.

I've been having intermittent drops in power lately. I'm thinking it could be the fuel filter or TPS. Definitely interested in the DIY for this.

 

I'd say it's ALMOST the same as LS430. If not exactly the same. Filtering elements look same (and have same part no.s), as well as location etc.
But i will do it soon (hopefully) and do a write up.

 

Isn't the only fuel "filter" on the LS just a "sock" type element that you usually only replace when you replace the fuel pump?

Some car have a replaceable canister type fuel filter that's a normal part of service, but I wasn't aware the LS had this.

 

yes, ls have sock AND canister (which becomes part of fuel pump assembly when installed).
check out russian thread, there's an update with pictures of old 'canister' (fine filter) sawn in half. it looks yuk.

 

Ok, i replaced my fuel filters today.
It was exactly as described in GS and IS forums (and thread linked above).
I was too tired to make a new picture write-up, sorry (been sick recently...).
It's nothing hard, but requires some carefulness and attention.
All fasteners and joints are rather easy and self explanatory, and there's no many points to mess up.
Also don't forget to check that you pulled all rubber o-rings from old filter body and put it into new one (wasn't really necessary in my case as i got filter with one o-ring included so i just carefully disassembled-assembled).
Idk, but perhaps i felt some more of 'oomph' after doing this. But i never had lack of 'oomph' with my lovely LS430 =)

 

I'm seriously considering replacing my fuel filter. She has ~155k, and I'm sure it's never been done before. Similar to Toy/Lex saying our tranny fluid is lifetime and doesn't need replacing, I believe it's the same thought with the in-tank (under the driver's side rear passenger seat) fuel filter.

An OE type filter (Beck-Arnley) can be had for about $29.

I know there's some OCD folks here and I'm wondering has anyone done this themselves on their LS? Most of our LS's have over 100k miles!

Thought of the day.....if you use an average MPG of 19 for the LS, and calculate how many gallons of fuel the filter has cleaned, we're talking about 5,790 gallons of gas!

I found the OE filter at my local Toy dealer for $28.56, granted I can drive 2 miles and pick it up with no S&H costs, maybe you can source locally with Toyota...?
