Question Progressive Snapshot

Hello guys,
Just received my Progressive Snapshot device in the mail today.
I'm sure you are all familiar with. It's the device you plug in your car and it monitors your driving so you can get a discount on your monthly car insurance.

THE weird thing that happened is that when I plugged the AFS light on the dashboard started blinking and the ABS light turned on.
I tried removing it and plugging it in back again. Turned off car restarted it and everything.
Everything stays the same. It only goes back normal if I remove the device.

Anyone had experience with this before, please help. Your help is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

It's just a legal spy device. Be aware, that it records everything, including voices inside the car...

Yes, that is where it plugs. Right above the gas and brake pedals.

Seriously, or are you just being sarcastic?
I have never seen such a dumb thing to say.

The Progressive snapshot does not record voices or location, only speed and braking.

I would never get one...but its not THAT bad.

Guys,
I just called Progressive today.

And I have found out from them that the Snapshot device is NOT compatible with the LS430.

I hope this thread helps anybody before they face this problem.

I have similar devices in my fleet www.virtualfleetsupervisor.com
Main reason I installed them, was to monitor and save on fuel (idling)
It's amazing what my drivers get up to, where they go when not on a job, and how fast they've been driving.

P.S I love it.

Progressive device does record everything, including location. It's very stupid not to understand that.
But for most americans ignorance is a bliss...

Thats not true...just Google it.

The original beta device had GPS, but the devices they are actually using with the program do not.

Here is an article critical of the program:

http://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/p....html?page=all

An excerpt:

Snapshot records the time of day and speed per second one drives. However, Progressive says that it does not use speed to calculate the discount. Instead, it uses the time of day and speed to calculate the number of miles a customer drives, as well as how often the driver slams on the brakes.

The device also confirms the Vehicle Identification Number, the time and date that the device is plugged in and the percentage of time the device is connected.

Snapshot is about the size of a garage door opener and plugs into the on-board diagnostic port. After 30 days of driving with the device, customers can check to see if their driving style has earned them a discount.

As part of the program, drivers leave the device in their cars for six months. At that point, Progressive says it will recalculate a renewal discount and customers will then return the device.
For example, Snapshot does not have GPS. Thus, Progressive doesn’t know where the car is. Pratt says that although the device originally contained GPS, that function was removed as customers complained about a possible lack of privacy.
This is a nonbiased media source.

Lynzoid, please avoid adding political commentary here... if you wish to do that, we have a debate forum that is very active and opinionated.

Well, that explains why it listens to the ABS, but not why it interferes with it.
