Default The other telescoping

I just happen to look down that way yesterday and noticed that (under the hood) telescoping part of the steering column looks a little rusted. I don't know if it leads to a possible problem, but before I start spraying something that not belong there, thought I'd ask.
Is this "normal", do you guys have the same looking part of the column pictured below?

Thanks!

Can you take a far photo? I can't quite make out where this is. If that's the hood strut, its not opened very far.

a. Thanks for looking
b. Yes, photo attached
c. No, I think you are referring to the fuel line going to the rail on the driver side bank of cylinders.

Column is hiding behind other things, to unless you really look for it you can't see it.

Default thanks

Any ideas as what should I do?

I am taking a long (for me) trip to Las Vegas very soon and don't want to get stuck, because I either neglected to address this or used something that shouldn't have been used.
I have graphite grease, silicone spray, white lithium grease, PB blaster oil and of course all bunch of WD40.
For some reason I fell WD40 would be the safest to use on it.
Your thoughts?
Thanks,
