Default Push start

I never knew how convenient it was to have a smart key until I started driving my cousins es350. Any opinions on this please.

Smart key option on the LS is wonderful. But it retains a traditional start switch which I like very much.

I really don't like the push button start cars. I think the push button start on a car is a bad idea - it is inherently not intuitive to use. A traditional multi-position switch is a much better driver interface because you can tell what state it is in just by looking at it and also by feel. Finger memory can save your life in an emergency. But I have been driving for 40 years and am very set in my ways.

How do you turn the ACC position on with a push button start? Do you actually have to start the car in order to have any accessories available? I've drive the push start cars when I have my car serviced, but never tried or even thought of the ACC position. There must be a simple answer for this.

To start the car with a push button start you need to depress brake pedal and press a start button.
To put car in ACC you just push a start button without depressing brake.

At least with Smartkey you don't have to depress the brake pedal. That means you can start the car from the pass. seat or standing outside the car if necessary when doing service on the car.

I think jabberwock hit the bullseye!
Curiousity question - how do you know if the engine is running or not without looking at the tach?
It is so quiet (I'm sure that it is at least as quiet as the 400 and 430) that you could try to start it twice.
What happens if you do?
