Has anyone put 16" LS400 wheels on their LS430 ?
Are there any pictures of what 16 " LS400 wheels looks like on an LS430 ?
I found a set locally, and may go for it !

I had 18s and hated it, now have 17's on and it's MUCH better - so now I am thinking 16s.
You thoughs on ride would be welcome, and if you can post pictures, I'd appreciate it

Stu,
The wheels that came on the Platinum Edition LS400 in 2000 were the same wheels found on the 01-03
LS430 so they should fit. I think that you are going to find the steering a bit mushy with the 16's but the ride does improve. You probably hated the ride on the 18's because of the tires that you chose. You had Ultra High Performance tires (Extreme Contact DWS that you have for sale). Had you purchased Grand Touring tires I think that you would have felt differently.

I agree, I definitely bought the wrong tires for a soft ride.
To me, comfort is extremely important. I really don't mind mushy steering, because I don't do high speed manovering so steering response is unimportant. I am probably going to by the 16s tomorrow.

Stu,
It would likely be less expensive to buy some other tires after you sell your Extreme contacts. I have used Bridgestone Turanza Serenity on my SC400 with 18 inch wheels. The front tires are 245/40/18 and the ride is fine. You could go with the 245/45/18 or even the 255/45/18 and would have an nice ride. Handling would be better as well. Anyway, good luck! I actually have two different sets of LS400 wheels that I am considering selling. If you are interested let me know. I am in Texas by the way.
Take care.

lev00221,
I have already sold my 18s, so I am definitely moving to 17s or 16s this summer and a nice Grand Touring V rated tire.
I didn't get the 16s today and the seller had ES300 wheels, not LS400 wheels.
I'd love to buy a set of your LS400 wheels, but the freight, duty and taxes would make it uneconomic.

I have a 2003 LS430. I use the original 17" wheels for winter tires, but the rest of the year I use 16" five spoke wheels off a 1999 LS400. They bolt on and clear the front brakes. The ride is boulevard smooth and soft with the 16's.

I am guessing this may be because of your tire choice ... but I am hoping I find it a bit smoother ( and less wandering too )

16"small
If you're looking for an even softer ride than the LS currently has, then going 16 is definitely the way. I use to have Blizzak 16" on my rims for winter, and 17" with ContiProContacts for rest of year. I found myself not taking my LS much (if at all) the last four years of ownership, so I switched to 16" with Michelin Primacy MXV4 on them. The ride is better with the Michelin than with the Blizzak (of course), but I guess because the Michelin are probably a little firmer, I don't feel too much different between them and the 17" continentals.
Again, if you don't mind the look (they look ridiculously small) and just want the ride, then go for it. It will "improve" the softness compared with same tires. Also, you save on tire prices with 16" tires. The tires I got were only $150 (OEM sized), which same tire on say an 18" would have probably been $200. Price to pay for bigger tires, although technically it's less rubber for a bigger rim.

I have the stock 17" chrome wheels with my summer tires on which are the Michelin Primacy MXV4's and I love them. Here in Minnesota we should all be using snow tires so i have the Michelin X-Ice Xi2's on and love them. Those are on the stock Lexus GS300 AWD. They were the only ones that cleaerd my calipers. I test fit many aftermarket wheels and they would not clear what is called the x factor. I tried a stock 16" ls400 wheel and wasnt pleased with the fitment. The stock lexus gs wheels look good and are quite with my X Ice's. Highly recommend finding a set of those.
