Default LS430 VS GENESIS 4.6-Desision

I'm looking for a new car and i like both the ls(custom luxury) and genny , both in the same price range 20-25K, it will be my daily driver , mostly hwy around 30-40K miles a year , reliability and comfort is #1 thing for me also fully equipped looking to buy at the end of year.

LS430 hands down. The Huyndai Genesis and Equus at the auto show had more wear and tear than our 98LS400 with nearly 100K and 14 winters. We don't know how reliable the genesis will be in the long run, so I'd say stay safe and get something you know won't give you any problems.

i was going to say the same thing. i bought my 05LS430UL in 08 with 29k and have 93k right now and it drives the same now as it did with 29k on the odo. i see very little wear and tear on mine and i drive about 25k a year (almost all highway miles, 85%) and except for a few rock chips from tailgating down the highway for 3 years its as good as 60k+ miles ago. i'm actually still on original brake pads

not sure if any hyundai can say that...¿

i also think many have expressed that the LS430 may be the best car ever built... and i know hyundai can't say that, period....

I signed up a while ago when i had my Rx330 , since i sold it i wasn't posting but i checked the forum on a regular basis (almost everyday) , i know a lot about 430 so no questions from me on which one is better ie custom lux or ultra lux, don't need any problems since i had a few with air suspension on my RX with sports package
I consider only 04-06 models
Thx

I had the same debate when I was deciding last yr. I posed the same question and went with Lexus b/c they have proven build quality and reliability whereas Hyundai is just getting into the game. Of course, we are all biased here. I would suggest visiting a Hyundai forum (if there is such a thing) and posting the same question on there. If you get the LS430 as the main answer, then that should say something.

I love my LS430 and have zero regrets about choosing it in the end (I would probably have regretted it had I chosen anything else on my list). Car is rock solid and squeak/rattle free over virtually all road types, very impressive driving experience. I usually get bored of my car after a yr or so and trade for something else, but I'm too much in love with the LS to do such a thing! Good luck with your search.

Hopefully, I can give some useful input on this. In June of 2010 I started to seriously look at the 4.6 liter Genesis and a used 2006 ML LS 430. I really liked the styling of the Genesis. I spent a whole Saturday at my local dealership and test drove it on highway, back roads and broken pavement which is typical in my local town. I liked almost everything about the Genesis apart for the ride comfort which was terrible on broken pavement, with a lot of road shocks coming through, side to side movement and almost a feel that the rear end was not in control. I was very disappointed and so the dealer let me try a 3.8 liter version with 17 inch rims and higher profile tires. Still the ride was very bad and for me a deal killer.

The following week end I test drove the LS 430 and what a difference. Overall the 430 is much quieter and the ride is in a different league. I now own the 430 and after adding 18,000 miles to the 58,000 when I purchased it, it has not missed a beat. Certainly the best vehicle I have owned. The only demerits of the 430in my view are the older Navigation system compared to the Genesis and the bluetooth voice quality is not very good.

What ever you decide to do I strongly suggest a detailed test drive on different road surfaces.

its worth noting that the LS430 was built to rival the mb s-class, bmw 7 series, audi a8, jag xj... the genesis is a competitor to the gs, audi a6, e-class, and 5 series, all of which i think are better than the genesis anyway.. but compared the genesis to the ls430, theres no competition.. LS430 hands down. Its a high end luxury car, the genesis isnt. i agree 100% that the LS is one of the if not the best car ever built. no comparison at all, get the LS.

It's really funny how I was making the exact same comparison before I purchased my LS430. I test drove the Genesis 5 Times. Yes......5 times. I drove the V6 and the V8 and wanted very much to like the car which for the most part I did. There was however one issue (which you will find on the Genesis forums) that I could not overcome......the ride. It seems to have a rear suspension issue that could not be resolved regardless of factory updates and tweaking. The car felt fine on smooth roads, but once there was any bumps or road irregularities the rear end seemed unstable and was all over the place. It felt like the car needed shocks. Consumer reports makes mention of the same problem. I ultimately did not want to spend $38,000 (my cost for a loaded V8) for a car I was not totally happy with. I test drove the LS430 and my decision was made. There is no comparison between the 2 cars and as far as reliability goes, the Genesis is a good value but does have some problems. I hope this was helpful to you. Read the posts on the Genesis forums and the suspension problems will show up with thte majority of the posts. Good luck with your decision making.

The hyundai will run and look great for up to 5 years then the difference in fundamental design and quality will start to be very evident when compared with an LS430.

The Genesis is aimed more at ES350 buyers. It is the Hyundai Equus that is aimed at LS buyers.

I recently test drove an Equus and an LS460 on the same day. Guess what my next car will likely be.

Actually, on the Genesis forum, you will find a number of unhappy owners, especailly with the early model(2009). Of course the majority are positive, but there are still a fair amount of "issues".
