drivers seat breaking down question
I recently purchased an 02 LS430 with 77k mi. When I sit in the seat the feeling is that i'm leaning towards the door. Quite possibly in and out of the car over 10 years has somewhat broken down the outer edge of the seat padding and springs. Its causing lower back discomfort. Any suggestions on how to achieve resolve will be appreciated.
You can buy a replacement cushion. Any upholstery shop can install it. Be sure to get the correct cushion: ventilated or not. I got mine at Sewell Lexus on line for under $200. They're a ClubLexus sponsor and give us a discount when you register. It'll feel like new.
I wouldn't know what else you could do other than disassemble the seat and see what's going on - or have a specialty shop do it for you. In the late 1980's I removed the front seats from a Mercedes and fabricated parts to somewhat rectify their collapse. It was a big job but the car wasn't worth spending much money on (rust issues) and it got me by until I bought my first LS in 1990.
The attached diagram might show you what you are dealing with.
