Default Engine Mounts

Just brought my '05 CPO in for the 85k service (oil/filter & rotate tires etc.) and they sent me a report stating that I needed new engine mounts. WTF!!! Cars been running fine with no noticeable clunks etc and now I get this. I'm not familiar enough with this item so anyone know if this is a wear item or is this just defective??
They are being replaced under warranty and I'm leaving tomorrow for a 3500 mile trip so I'm really glad I took it to Lexus for a look see before I left.

Rubber engine mounts - they can degrade over time so you could call them a wear item. I don't think its a commonly reported repair item on the board especially at 85k.

Thx Jabberwock. I did a search and didn't come with anything. The dealer couldn't recall the last time one of the 430's had to have it replaced.
In any event, perhaps its my imagination but the car does seem to be smoother after getting it back and driving for awhile especially the tranny.

Replace the mounts ppl ! All three (two engine and one tranny). Do not let dealer steal from you - these mounts cost 100usd x2 + 70usd x1. Replacement is approx. 1-2 hour job (and easy one).
You will notice BIG change in the comfort. I did. One of my engine mounts was torn. You cant diagnose it without taking it off the vehicle.

Props to TS for letting dealer do it on warranty !

i know my 95' needed them done no questions asked - but now I'm going to take a stab and say that after 5 years then maybe the mounts do need to be looked at - they may look fine but may have lost the impact resistance they were originally meant for. Im always up for more comfort but at what cost?

I'm pretty sure I need one or all. Starting to feel the vibration when driving under normal conditions. Gonna take a look next time I'm under the car and have the plastic shield thing off. I know my car would have had a lot of torquing on the mounts due to me beating on it, so most likely need to by done with 120K on it. Hopefully it's not too complicated. Any input would be appreciated.

you cannot see any rubber parts of the mount from outside... it needs to be taken off the vehicle to be inspected

Can anyone describe the process of replacing them? Is this something most people could do themselves?

You need lift + support rod jack for engine support to replace engine mounts and tranny mount.
