My Ls430 is mine again
I have my LS 430 back! The wife lost her job in 2008. gave her my ls 430 and i drove my dads old 93 lincoln town car for 3 years (nice car runs great). Wife gets new job this year so she just got a a new car. i get my lexus back so I am excited! Town car stays in the driveway as a 3rd car now.
Now that i drive the LS 430 everyday, I have a couple of issues that weren't there before for the most part. I am a below average mechanic, but I am willing to spend time on fixing things that are not beyond my ability.
1. One of the cup holder "arms" that comes out of the armrest is broken which means i only have one worthwhile cupholder. anyone replaced this before? i have to think it is an easy fix. Tips are appreciated.
2. I need to get the timing belt replaced (she has 104K miles). Anyone in Texas that can give me an idea on a fair price range to get this done? Do i HAVE to replace the water pump or can you visually inspect it to see it it needs to be replaced? Anything else in that job that I should look to have repaired/replaced? I replaced the water pump in my town car in an hour or so, but i havent turned a wrench on the lexus beyond replacing an o2 sensor (the one that connects under the passenger seat) or changing the oil.
3. Navigation issue: "Unable to read data. Check if map DVD is correct."
Where do i start with that? My Navi hasnt worked for several years. After reading this forum and elsewhere i am seeing simple solutions to costly ones that do not excite me.
4. The center console "glove box" or storage area does not open unless i push the back part forward (where the rear seat a/c vents are) while depressing the glove box release - and lift it at the same time. Anyone had this happen and is this an easy fix?
5. VSC light is on. I have seen here that this can be reset easily. i have not tried it.
6. This one puzzles me. Cruise control does not work. Lexus told me that since my windshield is cracked, that i had to replace the windshield to make the cruise work. They told me this at less than 50K miles when it was under warranty. I wonder about that theory. Does it make sense?
Other than that, it is well maintained and runs great. I look forward to any guidance you guys can provide.
Thanks!

#6??? Even if you have a CL/UL with laser/radar adaptive cruise control, the sensors are on the front of the car, not inside the windshield. Maybe your automatic windshield wipers would stop working if the windshield was cracked.
How to Remove VSC Light:
1. Make sure the ignition (key) is in the off position.
2. Locate DLC3 connector (under the drivers side dash) and jump terminals ts and cg. (use old wires lying around).
3. Turn ignition to the on position (do not start vehicle).
4. VSC warning light will turn out for 4 seconds then start to flash.
5. Once the light starts flashing for a few seconds, turn the ignition off and remove jumper wires.

Thanks for all the tips everyone.

Cruise control is definitely not based on windshield, thats one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard...
Cruise control is set electronically via the throttle body, and depending on the model, the lazer cruise as mentioned above.
Starting with basics, when you click the cruise button to turn it on, does the light turn on in the cluster?

I guess I feel dumb about the answer I got from Lexus about the windshield and cruise control... but I vividly recall that is what they told me.
