Good idea or Bad?
I am looking to purchasing a 2001 LS 430 with 121000 miles on it for my girl friend. I want to if you think i can get another 100000. miles out of this car without any major issues. This car has a great service record and always was taking back to the leuxs dealership.
Welcome! I would look for a premium (non-nav) unit as that has the least that can go wrong. Power mirrors and steering column motors seem to be the most frequent problems. Each fix is about $500. The 90K service (hopefully already done) and 180K service will run $1200-$1800 for timing belt and water pump.
Well maintained LS430 can go 200-300k+ miles easy. Be aware that it is a 10 year old high mile car at this point, so get it for a very good price (just a few hundred over wholesale) or pass.
While the motor and trans may run forever - other items like switches, plastics, hoses, rubber seals and gaskets, electronics, audio, etc - things tend to slowly wear, age, and eventually breakdown over time on even the finest cars. Essentially all these items become normal maint items as the years pass and their lifespan is reached. I have noticed that this process seems to accelerate after 10-12 years depending on how hard the car is used.
No way I'd suggest a NAV equipped car if you are trying to get another 10 years out of a 10 year old car. 20 year old NAV would be seriously clunky if it worked at all.

Add to Jabberwock's other items list: exterior paint, interior and suspension. Assuming this car lived it's life thus far in your local area, FL, the suspension shouldn't be a major issue. Given the intense sun in FL,the longevity of the paint and interior could be though. Hopefully the car was parked out of the sun and is a color that holds up well to sun exposure - as in, not silver or grey.
