Default need some strategic advice...

Hello - I've been told by two different people that the clear coat on my 01 looks "un-lexus like" to paraphrase one body/paint shop person - my top panels on my car all have serious oxidation that cannot be taken out by professionals - I've taken it to a real high end car guy here in town and his impression initially was that it was a respray job done a long time ago - after careful inspection, he told me it was the original paint. I then took it to a body/paint shop to have some window tint removed and the guy there asked what happened to my top panels (they appear to be a matte/satin finish) I told him that it was sun oxidation (Car has spent its whole life on Arizona) and he said that still should not happen to a Lexus - after giving it some thought, I realized that my 1996 Toyota 4runner that I sold to my brother and spends way more time outside than my LS430 still has beautiful looking paint - so that being said, is this something that I might be able to approach Lexus Corp. about - approaching them with the possibility that I might have had a bad clear coat application or something along those lines, and if so, what's the best way to approach Lexus?

Thanks for thoughts and comments...

Hard to tell as to how its been maintained as you don't have the car's history.

You could take it to Lexus and ask for some relief. Couple of items going against you getting anything 1) you are not original owner 2) you cannot prove the car was well maintained externally over its life (cleaned regularly, waxed periodically 3) the car is almost 11 years old.

I suppose you could write a letter to Lexus Corp and explain you situation. However, as Jabberwock has pointed out, there are a few things working against you.

All good points that I'd given some thought beforehand but I thought I'd run it past many of you on here who are much more experienced with Lexus than I am. I was somewhat encouraged by a friend of mine who'd had some trim go bad on a ford expedition from 2002 and Ford took care of replacing all trim free of charge just last year...

anyway, thanks for you input!

Any good body shop should be able to tell the difference between clear coat and non clear coat. It it's not clear coat then it's been repainted and asking Lexus to fix it would be denied.

the odds lexus would do anything to fix your cars paint would be the same as donald trump showing up at my door with the deeds to his properties as a gift.if your paint is in bad condition you may want to have it resprayed.good luck
