Default climate control fan speed

quick question guys. have a 2002 LS430. when i push the auto button on my climate control, the fan speed automatically goes to max. i have never let it continue to see if the fan speed goes down as time passes as i reduce fan speed manually which turns off the auto feature. is this normal? thanks!

One of the beauties of this car is that you can set it on auto and virtually forget it for the rest of the year. Only need to set the manual temp occasionally.

well that doesn't answer my question at all. see you are also in AZ. when you put auto button on in your car what does your fan do? does it automatically go to max bars/speed?

If you have temp controls set at same as ambient cabin temp the fan will not go to max when you turn on the system in auto mode unless something is broken.

However the fan will immediately go to max if the temp control is turned way down (or way up) from the ambient cabin temp (depending on if it needs heating or cooling to clear the delta). Although I think in the case of heating, even with a high delta between temp setting and ambient cabin temp, it will not go to max fan until the engine is warmed up if the engine is cold.

How does the rest of the climate control work? Mine would do the same thing and I found that the ambient interior temp sensor was unplugged

If the car interior is extremely hot, the fan will not instantly go to max as it would blow hot air for several seconds before the compressor produces cooling. Consequently the fan starts at a low speed and then will go to max when it is blowing cold air, probably in 30 seconds or so. Setting the therm to min will do nothing more, so the fan must be on max. I have never bothered to look at the climate screen when starting up, as I never saw a reason to do so.

Sorry about not answering your question.

thanks for the info. tested mine by setting temp to same as ambient cabin temp and the fan speed did NOT go to max. so mine is working properly and the fan speed then varied depending on what i set my temp at. thanks again. Jay
