Default Need advice on buying

I'm in the market for an LS430, have 8-9K to spend on with high miles and i've seen some good deals out there. I need to know for what issues to look for. I had a 98' GS400 before this and it was amazing, but my GS had 300 hp and the LS has 290 hp, why is that if the GS430 offers the same engine and has 300 hp and the LS doesn't offer the same power with the same engine? anyways all help is appreciated. Need to know what issues these LS has as i can tell you what issues the GS have. All info is appreciated before buying my LS430 baby!

Regards and be well

Rob

I would just read the treads that are already out first in this forum. With that being said with high milage I would just make sure the service history is up to date. I'm also interested how many LS430's there are for under 9K? There arn't any for under 12K here in Los Angeles thats on craigslist though.

The only LS models in our area in the $8-9K price range are LS400s. The early LS430s are priced in the low to mid-teens.

Things like electric switches, power mirrors, tilt steering adjust seem pretty common. I think the engine probably makes more torque at lower rpm, thats why the horsepower difference. Torque is real world power and horsepower is a math formula- you are better off with midrange torque than 6000 rpm horsepower. I tried explaining torque and power to an idiot with a mustang once and he couldnt comprehend that my 455 pontiac had more power at all useable rpm range than his 5.0...

Im happy to say I got the lowest price ls430 I have heard of-9600 from private owner (saved 1000 in tax that way also)

How do you figure you save 1000 in tax from a private party? In Wisconsin you either pay the sales tax at the dealer or pay when you get tags. They do not charge sales tax on private party purchases in IL?

That is a tough price range unless you have the ability to travel out of town. If I do a complete search through the US you can find 2 or 3 but to find a local car might be more difficult. The low range for early LS430s is in the $11,000-$12,000 range.

In Illinois i would pay 10.25% cook county tax from a dealer. On used vehicle by owner it goes by the year and an 02 costed either 30 or 60 dollars I forget.
