Is this right?

Check engine light is on, mechanic says it's the exhaust filter. And it's $350 for the part, $350 for labor. I haven't found much online about this... is this reasonable?

It's located next to the headlight fluid.

At first I thought this was a troll post, but upon further thinking...OP may be referring to the catalytic converters.

The only things I can think of are the old fashioned breather filters or PCVs.

I was thinking muffler bearings too

The only exhaust filter I can think of is the catalytic converters

We always laughed at muffler bearings, but now that adjustable volume muffler are becoming more and more common now, there actually could be a bearing inside a muffler on the adjustable mechanisms!

pcv are $8
nothing shows up on breathe filter

none of the normal "filters" listed here are over $100

cat converters over $1000

for the $350 price he mentioned, I can only see the muffler priced around here

oh wait, what's this?
vapor canister for $300???

Hoke - tell the mechanic to give you the part number so you can shop around for the part yourself. That way you get to actually see what he thinks needs replacing. Exhaust filter sounds a little suspicious...

Yes, I thought later this post probably looked crazy, especially for the first post.

You see, I wasn't the one that actually got to speak to the mechanic. Been to them before, but with my Acura. And the Lexus is new to us. But someone didn't like driving with the check engine light on (wussy) and just did the repair before I could do any checking around.

But you guys figured it out. Vapor canister is the part. I think this should count as a Christmas present...
