Default " maintenence needed soon"

On my 2005 LS, the " maintenence needed soon" lit up on my dash and a week later a chime went off and now there is a lit exclamation point " !" on my dash saying maintenence is needed.

The car just rolled over 50,000 miles.

Likely Lexus will need to reset this warning light, but is something specific needed ( car runs great ) or does the dealer just want me to come in and let them "try" and find something to work on ?

It is just a dumb timer, it means nothing. It comes on every 5k miles.

You can reset it yourself, sit in the car with the ignition 100% off. Hold down the ODO reset button with your finger, then turn the ignition to on

Per Lexus TSB EL002-03

Reset Maintenance Required Light

1. With your car OFF, place your key in the ignition and turn to ""On"". Do not start the car.

2. Find the odometer button and press until it reads the total odometer setting, (not the Trip A or Trip B setting).

3. Turn the key to OFF.

4. Place your finger back on the odometer button, press and hold. At the same time, turn the key back to ""On"".

5. Hold the odometer button in until the MAINT REQ light goes out...should take about 8-10 seconds.
