Fuel system is not holding pressure over night in all likelyhood. There should be a check valve in-line to maintain fuel pressure. It may be going bad. Try turning your key to the "Run" position to activate the fuel pump and pressurize for a few seconds before turning it to start the car.

I remember reading somewhere here that this is a symptom of a known fuel pump issue.

Exactly right , when you go to start your car, as the key passes the run position on the switch on its way to engaging the starter, the fuel pump turns on and immediately starts to pressurize the fuel line.

If the line has depressurized overnight then there may not be enough fuel pressure at the injectors to start the motor on the first start.

Per the suggested experiment, move the key to run position for 5-10 secs first before moving it forward to engage the starter for that "first start" and if that fixes the non starting problem then its likely a fuel pump relay, fuel pump check valve, or fuel line related issue. Sounds like the check valve would be a good starting point for diagnoses.

My 2004 is sometimes a little finicky to start on the first crank of the day, but I've never had it NOT start completely. It is not the recall issue because my fuel pump was already replaced, and your car I believe, is beyond the recall anyway. Check valve sounds like a likely candidate to me.
