Okay I love my LS but I have to vent. Changed the wiper blades today which takes 5 minutes on any other car For 20 bucks you get just the rubber, no box, and you have to reuse the metal bracket to slide it into the wiper blade. The bracket is two pieces that keep poping out while you try to slide the refill in. half hour job Come on for 20 you guys could not attach the tin guide.
Last DIY was the headlights on my SC. I had to drop the bumper.
It seems every modern car has a replaceable part that is so hard to replace that it seems the entire car was designed around it. For the Cadillac CTS / STS / SRX, it was the daytime running light. One had to remove the bumper or jack up the car, remove a front wheel, remove the inside fender liner, and hopefully have small enough hands to remove the socket. For the LS430, it seems to be the wiper blades.
Design by monkeys?
Ever try replacing the cabin air filter on a 98-94 Cadillac STS?
Located in the drivers footwell, virtually impossible to replace.
The concept of the filter was obviously thrown in after the interior was designed,
as an afterthought.
At the dealership, the senior tech's toss this job to the young monkeys.
Guaranteed to throw out your back and shoulder
I've found replacing wiper inserts on cars made by Toyota to be very easy and quick -- certainly less than five minutes per vehicle but I've had lots of practice including many years on several Mercedes sedans which used the same design on both windshield and headlight wipers. I don't even bother using the little plastic throwaway clamp that holds the metal ribs in place while I slide the rubber inserts into position. And I never bother to remove the wiper blades from the arms when replacing the inserts.
Are you reading the instructions? Did you have too many beers before tackling the job? LOL!
I remove the wiper blades from the arm (takes less than a minute). Then it's very easy to remove and insert the new blades. Don't try to do it when it's on the car.
Also, turn the wipers on and then turn key to off just as the wiper arm is in full up position. This will get you the clearance you'll need to pull the arm out.
I replaced the whole blade assembly with "triple edge" blades around the time I got the car and it's been fine since (almost 2 years).
I'm just replace the whole assembly as well and really love the contour wiper blade design after switching over two years ago.
what did you replace the driver side with? from reading around it sounds like some weird design that you cant find anywhere.. I dono havent taken it off yet, but i will need to soon. I hope the RainX latitude will work. I absolutely love those.
