Was wondering if anyone else has had their parking brake handle/cover in their ecru interior changing to a yellowish color . I thought mine might be the exception on my 2002 CL w/ gray birdseye maple accents but then saw another listing on Craigslist w/ a pic showing the same thing (see attached in lower left of photo). Hmmm, maybe it's not so unusual
Other than this, my interior is virtually perfect similar to the one in the pic so would like to replace it if possible. Wonder if theres a replacement part available ?
The ecru interior handle piece yellowing is a common thing on the LS430. I think that "white" plastics will always yellow over time just because "pure white" will almost never stay that color under light and UV.
Unless the color really bothers you, I'd say keep it as the part I would imagine being $100+. Just my best guesstimate.
Also, a new one is just going to yellow again in a few years.
Thx - Just may give this a try. Wonder why the surrounding plastics didn't yellow? Must of been a different part supplier than the brake handle mfgr.
On a side note, I do remember the yellowing effect on my computer equipment from the 90's and early 2000's where the afternoon sun would hit the back of my 21" Nanao crt monitor. After five years it was virtually two-toned yellow and beige.
I noticed the mismatch in color when I purchsed my car as a CPO with extended warranty. When I requested a new handle, my service advisor told me they were all that color and it wouldn't help to change. I should have insisted it be changed, but didn't.
Now I think that perhaps the best solution is just to have the people that do touch up's, ect, just airbrush it to match the rest of the car. I know you would probably lose the icon on it, but that would be OK with me if the handle matched.
Airbrushing I would think that even priming and then painting, you might start chipping if you use the brake often. Other than that, don't see much problems with it.
The different coloring may have been intentional, in order to help you identify the parking brake release. Several people who have driven my car (prior to becoming familiar with it) have had difficulty finding the parking brake release at night. That includes me on the same day that I bought it.

I think you're giving Toyota too much credit to even think that much. It's just a bad manufacturing match. I have the black interior and all are black, so if the mismatch was to see the piece better, then my handle would white too, or glow in the dark.
Hey, unless you're looking down all the time at your feet for some reason, you'll never look at it. I don't even know if I've ever looked at the handle even when release the trunk or gas.

Have to agree w/ you here. There's no way Lexus would allow a new vehicle to sit on a showroom floor w/ this obvious a mismatch. Had I been purchasing it new and seen it like this, it would have been a deal breaker. Imo, the interiors are almost perfectly matched (notice I said almost) except for this brake handle discoloration which seemingly took time to develop.
Again, thanks for the input as it's semi-comforting to find out as the OP that I'm not alone.
Interestingly, that within the original fix-it link is another link to the original chemist's explanation who determined that the yellowing is due to a bromine agent added to make the plastic flame/heat resistant : http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/ thus the computer discoloration many of us had w/ our PC cases. Why the brake handle has to be flame resistant is a mystery, at least to me.
