After spending some time looking at a half dozen LS430s, I picked one up today. The problem I was having was color combos. Most cars were horrible colors or they had light interiors which I didn't want. I also did not want a loaded car for fear of too much upkeep with the electronics or suspension. I ended up with a 2001 Millenium Silver with grey interior with Nav/ML 17s and 98K. The interior is virtually flawless with not a crease or crack on the leather anywhere. The body is straight as an arrow with not a dimple to be found. Other than a few small paint chips on the front bumper and a scuff mark, I was impressed with the overall originality of a car of this vintage. Mechanically it is strong with the back center speaker buzzing away, and the front rotors needing to be turned (causing a shimmy on braking). I feel like I'm driving my living room reclining chair! I have a G35 Coupe (purchased new) for fun and now the Lexus for comfort. It is like driving a barge but totally comfortable. This car exudes quality everywhere. POST 17 HAS PICTURES!

Sorry guys, I'm not at all savvy with cameras, but will give it a try when I get some time. I'm off to my mechanic to give it a thorough once over to find out how deep I have to go into my pockets.
When I bought my Allante, I had my mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection. I think he foresaw braces for all his children when he gave me the go-ahead to buy that car. LOL

The cash register draw keeps opening and closing with my 01 LS430 purchase. I just replaced my front pads and turned the rotors and now am contemplating replacing the rear struts due to some annoying creaking going over bumps. That still leaves me with a buzzing rear subwoofer and the need of a map update. My Nav DVD is from 2000! Hopefully that should cover all the mechanics. This would really be killing me if I had spent an additional 10K for a 2004 or newer LS430 and had to first start sinking more money into it. Oh well, the price for status.

I have the service history showing that at 96,000 miles the timing belt was replaced at Lexus. I assume the appropriate services were done, but my biggest concern is that the timing belt was changed. The dealer mentioned that they do not replace water pump or cam seals unless they are worn. I've heard that the water pump is fairly durable. Unfortunately, I'm facing replacing the rear struts to eliminate the rear creaking and it will be setting me back approximately $500!
