hello guys. i have a 05 ls430 with 225/55/17s. what are a few good brand of tire i can replace my tires with. i have michelen energy on the car now. they were on when i purchased the car. the front tires look like i have been thru a cheese shredder. dont know why. so, i need to know the best tire for the money that i can buy. thanks a lot for ur replies.

I put Continental Extreme Contacts on about 5 months ago. They had really great reviews on Tire Rack. I love these tires. They handle as well as the ultra-high performance summer tires that were on when I got it. They are very quiet and are phenomenal in the rain. I'm not in an area that gets snow, but supposedly they're fairly good there too. It's a little to soon to see about wear, but there's little wear visible after about 7,000 miles. Highly recommended.

 

Michelin Primacy - a little rough for first 100 miles then smooth and quiet - 60k wear warranty

 

treadwear number 620..one of the highest i have ever seen

 

General Altimax Hp are decent tires. Very quiet good wet performance.

 

I have Michelin HydroEdge and very happy with them. Treadwear rating is 800. Yes---800! Check it out on Michelin site.

I would go with Michelin, keep in mind the higher the tread wear rating the harder the tire. The harder the tire = less traction.

 

Agree - traditionally the harder rubber tire compounds meant way longer tire life but worse handling and worse wet braking. Softer rubber on the tire meant better handling, and better wet braking, but way less tire life. These days I am not sure with modern rubber compounds and tire design technology if this is still the case as it was back a few years. But I'd still be a little skeptical about handling and ride of a hard rubber compound tire. I am not a tire expert so I could be stone cold wrong.

Btw, if you scroll down to post 14, that's where you'll find the H and V ratings all in one inclusive excel file. As expected, what arguably seems to be the favorite among the forum posters - the Michelin MXV4 - comes out on top.

These are the new Extreme Contact DW tires, right? I'm very interested in these, the car I just bought came with a new set of Goodyear Eagle RSA tires and grip OK but they're relatively unforgiving and very noisy. I'm looking for a softer, quieter ride and I have the new Extreme Contact DW right at the top of the list as they are getting great reviews. Can you expand on your comments on ride quality and road noise?

I went this route also. America's Tire really cut me a sweet deal. They gave me the Costco $70 discount then gave a prorate on the wear left on my old tires.

I have 8000 miles on the HydroEdges.

 

i have used Michelin's Primacy before...very quite and comfortable...but a bit expensive to me

does anyone has other recommendation that is cheaper but still as good (or better)?
