I just bought an 2001 LS430 - the Navigation probably has the original DVD in it. The issue I have is that the Navigation screen doesn't turn the black background at night. It stays bright white which is distracting at night. Did 2001 have the feature to go to black background at night?

 

This setting is in one of the setup menus. You can auto switch between day and night settings, or force the unit to stay in one or the other mode, ignoring ambient light.

 

I think that has to do with your dimmer switch, the **** you turn to make the dash brighter or dimmer. Your probably have it clicked to brightest, which overrides the dimming function. Unclick and hopefully this works. Atleast that is how the '04 works.

 

Dimmer switch was the problem. It was set to highest level which kept the Navigation brightness at maximum even at night.
