Does anyone know what the differences are between the Primacy MXV4 and the Pilot Primacy? Michelin's tire naming is, uh, interesting - with names like Primacy, Energy, Harmony, Symmetry, and Destiny.

Energy and Symmetry are more suited for minivans and large passenger cars, such as an older Lincoln Continental or Mercedes - you don't see them as often on recent model-year cars. They typically have S and T speed ratings, which is very low, although what is necessary for these types of cars, and load-carrying capacities ranging from 96-104. The Harmony and Destriny line are better suited for smaller passenger cars/compacts and some smaller minivans, you see them most often on Civics and Grand Caravans. They too have S and T ratings but also have lower load-carrying capacities, usually like 84-98. Primacy is the sport-comfort(ish) line, best suited for average sized cars and smaller sports sedans such as a Mazda 3 or a newer Civic. They have H-rated or V speed ratings, and have load ratings from like 89-94. Then comes the Pilot line, which is basically the performance line, which ranges from H and V-rated tires like the Exalto A/S fitted on an Audi A4, to W-rated tires like the Pilot Sport PS2 fitted on an IS-F or an M3, up to a Y-rated tire like the Pilot Sport Cup found on high-end Porsche like a GT2.

Michelin also owns BF Goodrich which comes in and fills in some gaps between those lines.

Hope that helps.

1st Impression of Primacy's:

Nice smooth ride. Definitely quieter then the stock Dunlops. The Dunlops where worn very low. Handling seemed to decrease with the Primacy's. I can feel more "body roll". I would attribute this to the softer side wall. Not possible to get both in the same tire, this being said, I am happy with the Primacy's. I'll give some more thoughts after putting some more hiway miles on the tires.

My previous set must have really been off balance, the car ride is so much smoother. No more wobble at highspeed, which had increased slowly over the last month or so.

Nice choice on the tires, you will not regret getting these tires. I've got the MXV4's on both of my vehicles and the ride is excellent.
