Question New Michelin Tires

I have a bubble in the sidewall of my front driver side tire. Right now I have Michelin Primacy HP's and have been pretty satisfied with them. The car is a 2008 w/ 18" and only has 19K on it and I'm thinking of changing a four tires but I don't know which Michelin tire I want to go with. Every where I shop they want $370+ for the Primacy HP and my second choice right now is the Pilot Sport PS2.

First, why are the Primacy HP's so expensive? I thought the Pilot Sport PS2's were the better tire? I have priced the PS2's and they rage from $250-330. I've also notice that there are several versions of the PS2, so what are the differences? Should I go with the cheapest ones?

Thanks!!!

I personally have Pilot Sport A/S plus which is an awesome tire. With double AA tracktion and 500 thread wear i dont think it can get better then that.

well, define better though. the ps2 is one of the best max performance tires there, used by isf and m3 (among other cars), but they also wear out like no tomorrow. on my m3 i am lucky to get 10k miles from them.

i don't know about the HP, but i guess they are better on the wear? maybe that's why they cost a bit more

me personally i think the a/s are good tires, had them before, loved them.

ps2 has a lot of specific version for different cars i think. i doubt they have any specific ones for the gs

I have put over 22k miles on my Primacy HP, they still have over 50~60% of tread on them!!!

The thread wear for the Primacy HP are 240 and the PS2's are 220 so that's not a huge difference. I'm just wondering are they worth the extra $100/tire. When I bought the car in 08 there were only two car on the lot that had the Primacy HP (the rest had Yoko and Dunlop) and I have been satisfied with their performace and wear. The tires on the car still have approximately 50-60% of thier tread left but I always replace the whole set.

The reason why i'm asking about the HP's are because I've read many of the threads and it dosen't seem like many people either had/have the Primacy Hp's. I've read plenty about the PS2 and Pilot A/S but want the best performing tire out of the Primacy HP or the PS2. I live in S. Louisiana so I don't need an All-Season tire.

again i don't know that much about HP, but i doubt it has better performance than ps2. from what i know, ps2 is still bread and butter for michelin in terms of max performance tires. and i can tell you from driving my m3, that tire sticks like hell.

and for sure doesn't live up to the 220 trend wear, haha... i was barely breaking 10k and it was at 2/32 already.

LOL! This pretty much sums it up for me...I assume that you drive your M3 hard...I'm now leaning towards the PS2's. I drive the car approximately 10K a year and I always seem to replace my tires evey two years (I don't drive to hard) anyway so if I get around 15k out of those tires it will be worth it. I already see signs of cracking on the sidewalls of the Primacy HP's and they are barely 2 years old with 19k so...

i am surprised you are seeing cracks on the sidewall?! you sure that's not defects?

lol, i have to say i dont' drive my m3 that hard on the road. definitely more aggressive than the gs350, but never burnout or drift.

the ps2 is just amazing

I'm definately going to check on it....the date code on those tires are 0701 so im pissed that they put 1-1/2 old tires on a new car....go figure...

I have 30k miles on the original Primacy tires, and it appears I'll get another few thousand miles out of them. I also rotate every 5k.
I have also priced replacements, and feel the cost of new Primacy tires is prohibitive.
The Tire Rack website is an effective research tool. From what I've read there, I may be buying Kumhos when the time comes - around $170/tire with excellent reviews.

I did some research on Tire Rack also....that's one of the reasons that I was thinking about switching to the PS2....$370 seems a bit much for that tire. I don't mind $250-270 but for that price I thought they were run flats!
