Default AFS really does work

Now that the sun is rising later, I drive through this reservation area to get to work and it's wooded and not lit, so when it's dark, it's really really dark. I had always thought my '99 RX had some pretty good lights when I drove through the mountains but the AFS in the LS430 is incredible.

Before this week, I didn't really think the AFS system did that much. Most of my driving was on highway or residential areas where overhead lights lit much of the road. Yeah, the lights tilted left and right slightly to "enhance the lighting" but I just thought it was more gimic than real function. Anyway, I had been driving the LS through the area for a few days and I did notice that it lit the road up very well and the highbeam was really bright too because it's one as the HID are on. Still though, I just thought it was the brighter HIDs.

Today, drove my RX again... ugh, what happened???? I noticed immediately how the fixed lights just did not illuminate the bends at well and even the high beam on the RX was more yellow than bright. I realized just how much we're NOT SEEING when we go around sharp bends.

Now I'm afraid to drive through there in my RX... All I know is, next Lexus I get, has to have AFS.

My ES350 had AFS and it was OK. It did work, but didn't make a big difference as the headlight were more 'normal'.

The LS430 has these ridiculously amazing headlights that just light up the road. Throw AFS on top of that and it's even better.
