Default 2001 LS430UL Levinson sub failure

Sub rattling like crazy.

Removed the cover and discovered the rubber ring is separated about 3 inches around the top as I had read about here.

I can press the rubber to the edge and the rattling stops.

My question is should I be able to hear bass from the speaker even if it rattles?

I cannot hear anything although the cone moves, etc. Is the reason I can't hear bass likely because of the separation only, or is that not likely(ie wistful thinking)?

Can someone tell me what specific type of glue or silicone or whatever I would use to repair the separation, cure time, etc?

I am afraid I will have to remove the sub to repair it as the separated place is near the front where I cannot see it from inside the vehicle.

Any other ideas or insights are much appreciated.

Alan

I just decided to pull the sub out last night.
Found that the rubbber had actually separated all around.
Went to Lowes and picked up a tube of DAP silicone adhesive.
Ran a heavy bead all around the edge and let set last night.
I'll let it cure until tomorrow then reinstall it and see if it works.
Thanks for the replys,
Alan

I did that on my '03 and it worked fine. I took the speaker assembly apart and very carefully applied the silicone adhesive under the plastic clamp piece, all perfectly neat and all. Well..... it still rattled a little bit. Grrrr... So then I ran a bead deep in the joint between the foam-like surround and the plastic clamp piece and it's worked great since. Bottom line is, you don't even need to remove the speaker to do it.

I reinstalled the sub last night and it seems to work fine.
Thanks to everyone who replied, and to Mikemareen, who I believe first posted this fix!
