My drivers side mirrow quick working yesterday, so I tried moving it manually. Made a popping noise, then worked just fine. Guess it was just stuck.

People,

Take a step back - count to 10 - and remember that you are dealing with OIL.

It's not critical at all to be up to one quart too full or too low if your engine holds more than 4 quarts of oil. No more than one to two quarts should be circulating at any given moment, leaving a few quarts in the sump. The whole point of having too much oil by design is to provide chemical and thermal buffers to oil breakdown, as well as the acceptable nature of an engine to burn oil and not allow the oil go instantly to the level of the sump pick up, which is actually quite low. My 1990 LS has the yellow low oil level warning sensor which tripped once on a 2000 mile trip when we were around three quarts too low.

When in doubt, you may overfill a typical 2.0 and up liter engine up to one quart before you develop foaming issues.

My point is that the acceptable operational error for motor oil level is plus minus one quart, not 0.1 quarts as everyone seems to stress over so much.

Deep breaths and relax everyone.

PEACE.

I just bought my LS430 UL month ago. I went to one of a good repairers called Southern Import. I took a quote for doing couple of things like:

1. changing oil and oil filter with a check list they do ($ 100- 125) they use full synthetic mobil 1 oil
2. change A/c filter since the monitor told me to change ($87 for both front and rear) + the part price, they said it cost $51 for the front and $76 for rear
3. tire rotation ($15)
4. fixing the driver side mirror because it does not go up or down just left and right ($72.49 just to check what is the problem).

so we are looking at something between $350-400
is that normal or not?? because this is my first time to do oil change and maintenance. Also, I don't want to take my car to a cheap place like Walmart or so.

any suggestions.
I wrestled with this oil change deal for a long time. I am too cheap to pay the dealer (lex) price for such a simple procedure. I went to Toyota a couple of times at 42.00 a crack. Tried it myself once, and have been going to Jiffy Lube for 25.00 ever since.(with a coupon) I keep a close eye on what is going on. I am old school and still use regular 5-30 weight.
On the filters, as mentioned by others, I buy oem on line for about 22.00 a pop. Very simple change out.
